Met Death by falling from a Scaffold.
Dubuque Times —Walter E. Jones, a carpenter employed in the remodeling of the Fates Wood house on Fenelon place, which was recently purchased by Ald. Wales, fell from a scaffolding sixteen feet high on Friday afternoon at 3:50 o’clock, receiving injuries which caused his death half an hour later. Mr. Jones was in a stooping position on the middle of the scaffolding, which was on the west side of the house, nailing on the cornice. When he had finished this work he caught hold of the cornice to raise himself to a standing position. The piece of woodwork which he grasped was insecurely fastened and it gave way, precipitating him backward. His fall was broken by a board, used to brace the scaffolding, which was broken by the force of the fall. He lit on his stomach upon a rail fence immediately below, inflicting the injuries that caused his death.
