Micheala R. “Shelly” Lauer, age 59, of Bernard, Iowa, completed her earthly journey on July 17, 2020, at UnityPoint Health-Finley Hospital in Dubuque. To honor Shelly’s life, a private family service is being held. Burial will be in the Dubuque Memorial Gardens Cemetery. The Tri-State Cremation Center is humbly serving Shelly’s family.

Shelly was born on July 2, 1961, in Dubuque, Iowa, one of two children to George and Irene (Crews) Heeren. She proved to be a determined and strong-willed soul from the very beginning and these traits would surely carry her through the many health trials and tribulations which would eventually make their way into her life. When Shelly was contributing daily within the years of her working careers she spent most of her time in the printing department at the Regency Company, followed by many years in customer service with Advanced Data Comm, and finally even spent a little time over the road as a team driver with her husband, Tim. Shelly was also an ordained minister and was very proud of that. Sadly, Tim was called home suddenly and Shelly’s health issues became more severe. When she was feeling good enough, Shelly loved spending the day with a fishing pole in her hand on the water’s edge, creating a little magic at her craft table, baking up some tasty treats in the kitchen, and socializing with those around her. She always believed that life should be lived to its fullest, and we can thank her now for the amazing example she has left us all. Shelly faced more earthly battles than most could ever imagine, and yet, she never surrendered. We hope that she is now enjoying the eternal peace that only her Lord and Savior can provide, and we can’t wait to see her again residing in her new and perfect body. Thank you, Shelly, for all of the memories, love, and lessons you’ve left behind and may we slowly discover moments of strength and healing through them in the days, weeks, and months ahead.

Those left behind to cherish the memory of Shelly include,

her mother, best-friend, and neighbor,
Irene Heeren, Bernard, Iowa;

her brother,
Michael (Connie) Heeren, Dubuque, Iowa;

her niece and nephews,
Austin Heeren, Tanner Heeren and Natasha Heeren;

along with numerous extended family, friends, and neighbors.Shelly was preceded in death by her father; her husband, Timothy Lauer; and a son in infancy.

Shelly’s family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff at UnityPoint Health-Finley Hospital and University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics for their care and concern with Shelly.
