At Dubuque, Iowa
Thursday MorningDeath claimed Mr. John C. Clemens, a former Dyersville man, at Mercy Hospital in Dubuque last Thursday morning at 1:30 o’clock. He had been seriously ill for about a week although in ill health for the past several years.
John C. Clemens was born in Guttenberg, Iowa in 1884, and was 67 years of ag4 at the time of his demise. He spent much of his youth in Dyersville holding a position as clerk in Dyersville hotel and later register department of the Telegraph herald and Times Journal. He was married in 1924 and besides his widow Mrs. Elizabeth Clemens of Dubuque, had two step-daughters, Miss Irene Arnold of Detroit and Miss Mae Arnold of Dubuque, he is survived by three brothers; Peter of Dubuque, Joseph and Nicholas Clemens of Dyersville, and four sisters, Mrs. Mary Chwala and the Misses Elisabeth, Margaret and Anna Clemens, all of Dyersville. His parents and two brothers preceded him in death.
Mr. Clemens was a devout Catholic and highly respected by all who knew him. He had many friends in that community who will mourn his passing.
The funeral services were held at 9 o’clock Saturday morning from St. Raphael’s Cathedral with interment in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Rev. J. W. Casey celebrated the requiem mass and preached they funeral service. He also officiated at the services at the cemetery. Pallbearers were: Messrs. G. E. O’Rourke, William Connolly, O. Hoffman, Anthony Rhomberg, John Nagle and Nick Kintzinger.
Among those from Dyersville who attended the funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. Joe Clemens, and son Clifford, Nicholas Clemens, Mrs. Mary Chwala and the Misses Elisabeth, Margaret and Anna Clemens.
