Charles S. Lorenz, 71, died Thursday at the home of his daughter. Mrs. Ted Reiter, of 1572 Iowa street, after a long illness. Friends may call at the Strueber funeral home after 2 p.m. Saturday. The funeral will be at 9 a.m. Monday from the funeral home to St. Mary’s church. Burial will be in Linwood cemetery. He was born Feb. 28. 1878, in Dubuque, son of the late David and Johanna Lorenz. Dubuque pioneers He married Rose Ploeger Oct. 30, 1899, at Emmetsburg, Iowa. A life-long resident of Dubuque, he worked for the Burlington railroad as a foreman in the freight house, retiring in 1942 after 32 years in railroad service. He was a member of St. Mary’s church.

Surviving is the wife: two sons, Chester C. Lorenz, of Lansing, Iowa and Clifford J. Lorenz of Dubuque; a daughter, Mrs. Ed (Gladys) Reiter of Dubuque; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Lillian Grode, of Arlington, Virginia; and two nephews. He was preceded by a brother, Ben Lorenz and a sister, Mrs. John Meyer.
