Henry George Pitman was born in Edington Co. Somersetshire, England on Sept. 21, 1835. As a young man Henry was a member of the Church of England. He came to this country as a youth, marrying in 1866 to Miss Elizabeth Durston. Five children were born to this union: Louis Jane, Born Oct. 1870; Albert Henry , born Sept. 3, 1871; Ann Amelia, born Jan. 16, 1875; Nellie Laura, born March 1, 1875 (Note the similarity in dates from the church records).: Jemima Ellen (Mima).
Henry Pitman became ill with consumption and died eighteen months later on May 25, 1897, while surrounded by family. Elizabeth died on January 12, 1821. Both are buried at Fairview Cemetery.
