Louis Napoleon Arcouet was born in Canada Sept. 12, 1836, son of Joseph and his first wife. Louis was very young when he learned the trade of shoemaking. At age 6 he came to Dubuque, Iowa where he worked at his trade. On June 2, 1860, Bishop Loras married Louis and Margaret Robillard. Margaret Robillard was born in Syracuse, New York on Dec. 24, 1839. She was of French-Canadian descent. At age three she came to Dubuque with her parents.

Louis Napoleon and Margaret came to Farley shortly after their marriage. They were real pioneer settlers for there were few houses here when they arrived. L. N. skill of making shoes sustained the family until three months before his death at the age of 82. He died Jan, 12, 1919. Margaret died July 8, 1894 at Farley. After the death of Margaret, Louis went to live with his daughter Louise (Mrs. Henry Schemmel) who lived next door to the rock house which had been their home for fifty years. House is located on 4th avenue N. E.

Other children born to this union were: Albert of Plummer, Idaho; Selma (Mrs. J. J. Callahan) of Dubuque; Stella (Mrs. John Eichner) of Kennewick, Washington and Belle (Mrs. Belle Nelson) of Dubuque.
