Jacob Michael "Jake" Wolter, 27, of Dubuque, passed away Thursday, Dec. 5, 2013, at Mercy Medical Center-Dubuque, after a sudden turn with a lifelong battle.

A funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Dec. 9, at St. Joseph The Worker Church, with the Rev. Gabriel Anderson officiating. Family and friends may gather from 2 to 6 p.m. today at Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road, where there will be a wake service at 1:45p.m.

He was born on May 25, 1986, in Dubuque, the son of Michael and Mary Jane (Kueter) Wolter. He attended St. Joseph The Worker grade school, graduated from Wahlert High School in 2004 and attended UNI, from where he graduated in 2008.

He married Lindsey Massey on Sept. 1, 2012, in Waukee, Iowa.

Jake was working at the FSA Office in Epworth, Iowa, as a soil conversation technician. He was a member of Ducks Unlimited, Pheasants Forever and a life member of the NRA.

Jake was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed four-wheeling with his four-legged friend, Duke. But when he wasn't hunting or fishing, he could be found cheering on his favorite teams, the Iowa Hawkeyes, Miami Dolphins and Chicago Cubs. Jake lived every day as an adventure and always with a smile. He was a very dedicated and loving husband, son, brother, grandson and uncle.

He is survived by his wife, Lindsey; his parents, Mike and Mick Wolter, of Dubuque; a brother, Nathan (fiancee, Megan Vande Vegte) Wolter, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; father- and mother-in-law, Dave and Kim Massey, of Waukee, Iowa; a sister-in-law, Stephanie (Scott) Adams, of Grimes, Iowa; his nephew, Cade Adams; his grandparents, Imelda Kueter and Duane and Barbra Wolter; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins and his faithful companion, "Duke."

He was preceded in death by his grandfather and fishing buddy, Gregory Kueter.

In lieu of flowers, a Jake Wolter Memorial Fund has been established.

The family would like to thank the team of doctors and nurses in Dubuque and at The University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics for their years of hard work and determination, especially Dr. Donald Reyerson, Dr. John Hokenson and Dr. Mark Moore.
