Charles Malloy Dead

At high noon on Monday last the spirit of Charles Malloy passed beyond the “twi-light-hills” to its eternal rest, and Cascade lost another old time citizen who had been identified with its history for many years. He was a man of sunny temperament, and popular with all whom knew him.

In the past few years his declining health was perceptible, but his cheerful nature served to hide the shadow that followed him in the daily walks of life, and only in the past few days was it conclusively foreseen that in the dial of his early career the hours were drawing to a close. On Thursday last he was upon the streets chatting with his friends. Later his condition grew rapidly worse, and Monday at noon he passed away.

Charles Malloy was born in Tullamore, Kings County, Ireland, March 14, 1830. He came to America and settled in Cascade in 1855, and entered the employ of Hugh Devlin as a harness maker. In 1856 he was married to Miss Mary Lang of this city.

He was in employ in the Devlin establishment from 1857-1887, a period covering 30 years. In 1887 he removed to California, but remained there only six months when he returned to Iowa and located in Monticello, where he lived a year or two. He again returned to Cascade, and has since resided here.

He leaves a wife and daughter, Mrs. John O’Connell, of Silver Plume, Colorado, and Anna, an adopted child, to mourn his death.

The funeral took place Thursday from St. Martin’s Church, and was attended by a large concourse of friends and citizens of Cascade. The Rev. L. Roche officiating.
