Mrs. Ellen Arnold, wife of Peter Arnold of Dubuque, and sister of Mrs. James Carroll of this city, died at Mercy hospital at 6:30 A.M., Wednesday, Aug 14, Mrs. Arnold was taken ill last fall and from that time until her death she failed in health. The physicians in attendance attributed her illness to poison resulting from eating canned meats. Though every effort was made to counteract the poison it was without avail. On Tuesday her condition became so alarming that she was removed to the hospital. Deceased, whose maiden name was Helen Keefe, was married to Mr. Arnold five years ago. She was born in this county 48 years ago and spent all of her life here. Mrs. Arnold was a woman of a strong character, of cheerful disposition and sterling worth. She was beloved by her neighbors who sincerely condole with those whose grief is keenest. She had extensive acquaintances in the country, where she was reared, and the news of her death will come as a shock to those who know and loved her.
