DYERSVILLE, Iowa - David J. Tauke, 85, of Dyersville, passed away Monday, May 22, 2017, at Mercy Medical Center in Dubuque.
Visitation will be held from 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday, May 25, 2017, at Kramer Funeral Home, 750 12th Ave SW in Dyersville, where an American Legion Service will be held at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue Friday morning from 9 until 10 a.m. at Kramer Funeral Home prior to funeral services.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 26, 2017, St. Francis Xavier Basilica, Dyersville, Iowa, with burial in the church cemetery, where American Legion Post 137 will conduct military honors. Rev. Dennis Quint will officiate.
Dave was born December 22, 1931, in Dyersville, Iowa, the son of Greg and Elizabeth (Osterhaus) Tauke. After graduating from Xavier High School he served in the Navy with the Seabees for four years. He married Joan Moorman on December 26, 1953, in Greeley, Iowa. Together they had seven children. She preceded him in death on December 31, 1973. He later married Alice Konzen on July 4, 1975.
Upon his return from the service he began working for his father at Greg J. Tauke & Sons Implement Dealership. In 1971 he purchased what is now Tauke Motors in Dyersville.
He enjoyed family and friends, fishing, grilling, golfing, and traveling with Alice to all of the United States and Canadian Provinces. He was an active life member of American Legion Post 137.
Survivors include his wife, Alice; 6 children, Doug (Kathy) Tauke and Dan (Sue) Tauke, both of Dyersville, Deb (John) Ketchen, of Vinton, Diane (Craig) Reid, of Marion, Sue (Dr. Larry) Ellingson, of Iowa City, and Sandy (Rick) Isenhart, of Littleton, CO; a son-in-law, Dennis (Shari) Overman, of Dyersville; 15 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren; a sister, Marjorie Torrance, of Dyersville; a brother, Marvin (Leona) Tauke, of Dyersville; many in-laws from the Moorman and Konzen families; and his faithful companion, Gerti.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Joan; one daughter, Beth "Bunny" Overman; siblings, Donna (Robert) McGuire, James (Arlene) Tauke, brother-in-law, Tom Torrance, and several in-laws from the Moorman and Konzen families.
Memorials are preferred to St. Francis Xavier Basilica or Camp Courageous of Iowa
