DYERSVILLE, Iowa - George P. Menke Jr., 83, of Dyersville, Iowa, died Tuesday, October 13, 2015, at Dubuque Nursing & Rehab in Dubuque.
Visitation will be held from 2:00-8:00 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 15, 2015, at Kramer Funeral Home, 750 12th Ave SW in Dyersville, where a parish vigil service will be held at 2:00 p.m. and a Knights of Columbus Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue Friday from 9:00-10:30 a.m. at Kramer Funeral Home prior to funeral services.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 16, 2015, at St. Francis Xavier Basilica in Dyersville, with burial in the church cemetery. Rev. Dennis Quint will officiate.
George was born September 6, 1932, in Dyersville, the son of George H. and Mayme (Ricken) Menke, Sr. He married Grace Becker on February 8, 1958, in Dyersville. Together they farmed north of Dyersville until retiring in 2003, when they moved into town. George was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 1734, and enjoyed golfing, traveling across the country, riding his bicycle and going to Total Fitness Rec Center. He also enjoyed going to Farmer Shipping and playing cards.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Grace; 3 children: Larry (Cheryl) Menke, of Chicago, Linda (Jeff) Feldmann, of Durango and Ken (Hillary) Menke, of Dyersville; 9 grandchildren: Conner, Nathan, Emma, Kara and Paige Menke, Jordan, Jake, Mallory and Madison Feldmann; 2 sisters: Wilma Lake and Frances Wessels, both of Dyersville; in-laws: Rosemary Dettbarn, of Earlville and Jerry (Kathy) Becker, of Dyersville.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Timothy; in-laws: Robert Wessels, Lloyd Dettbarn, James Lake and Leander (LaVena) Becker.
We would like to extend a special thank you to the staffs of Oak Park Place, Shady Rest Care Center, Summit Center, Dubuque Nursing and Rehab and Hospice of Dubuque for the compassionate and skilled care of our husband and father over this last year.
