DYERSVILLE, Iowa — Gerald H. "Gerry" Schnieders, 89, of Dyersville, Iowa, passed away Sunday, September 17, 2017, at Manor Care, at 10:25 p.m. in Dubuque, Iowa.

Friends and relatives of Gerry may call from 3 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, September 20, 2017, at the Reiff Funeral Home in Dyersville, Iowa, where a wake service will be held at 4 p.m., and Dyersville American Legion services will be held at 7 p.m. Friends may also call after 9 a.m. on Thursday at the Reiff Funeral Home.

Mass of Christian Burial for Gerry will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, September 21, 2017, at Basilica St. Francis Xavier, in Dyersville, Iowa, with Rev. Dennis Quint presiding. Burial will be held in St. Francis Cemetery in Dyersville, Iowa, with full military honors afforded by the Dyersville American Legion Post #137.

Gerry was born on March 14, 1928, in Dyersville, Iowa, son of Arthur and Marcina (Steger) Schnieders. He was a 1946 graduate of St. Francis Xavier High School in Dyersville, IA. He was united in marriage to Gladys Tauke on September 26, 1951, in Greeley, IA. He served in the United States Army from 1946 to 1948.

Gerry lived on an acreage for 39 years where he raised and showed Quarter horses. He worked for Dyersville National Bank for 28½ years. He went on to sell real estate for 8 years and then worked at Fidelity Bank for 8 years, and he also sold granite monuments for many years. He loved spending time with his family. Gerry also enjoyed photography, golf, flower gardening, playing the Hammond organ and visiting with the Amish.

He was a member of St. Francis Xavier Parish in Dyersville, Iowa. He was also a member of the Dyersville American Legion Post #137, Dubuque and Dyersville Barbershop Choir and Quartet, Commercial Club and served on the Beckman School Board.

He is survived by his wife, Gladys Schnieders, of Dyersville, IA; four children, Sam Schnieders, of Tampa, FL, Jeff (Tammy) Schnieders, Lori (Bradley) Knight, both of Cedar Rapids, IA, and Sally (Terry) Steffen, of New Vienna, IA; six grandchildren, Melissa, Justin, Matthew, Jeremy, Kelly and Ryan; four great-grandchildren, Killian, Emma, Paisley and Baylor.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his twin sister, Geraldine McQuillen; and one brother, Bobby Schnieders.

A Gerald H. Schnieders memorial fund has been established.
