DYERSVILLE, Iowa - Alfred J. Klostermann, 76, of Dyersville, died Wednesday, Oct. 8, 2008, at Shady Rest Care Facility, Cascade, after a long illness.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Oct. 13, at St. Francis Xavier Basilica, Dyersville, with the Rev. Hertges officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 9 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 12, at Kramer Funeral Home, Dyersville, where there will be a parish scripture service at 4 p.m., the American Legion Post 137 and Veterans of Foreign Wars will gather at 6:30 p.m. and a Knights of Columbus Rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m.

He was born on March 3, 1932, in Dyersville, son of Alfred B. and Rosa (Olberding) Klostermann. He served in the Army from 1954 to 1956, serving in France during the Korean War.

He married Lorraine Weber on Feb. 9, 1959, in Monti. Together they farmed the family farm until their retirement in 1984.

Alfie was a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus and American Legion Post 137. He also was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the 40/8.

Surviving are his wife, Lorraine; children, Tom, of Dyersville, and Joyce (Ron) Peiffer, of Marion; six grandchildren, Chad, Kristin, Heather and Sean Klostermann, and Erin and Brandon Peiffer; a great-grandchild, Harmony Paul; daughters-in-law, Nancy Klostermann, of Dubuque, and Roxanne Klostermann, of Dyersville; four sisters, Rita Deutmeyer, Lila Clemen, Ruth (Joe) Lansing and Vera Kroeger, all of Dyersville; and a sister-in-law, Verna Klostermann.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Jim and Don Klostermann; a brother, Art Klostermann; and a sister, Virginia, in infancy.
