Joseph W. Schwendinger

PEOSTA, Iowa - Joseph W. Schwendinger, 48, of 12480 Clear View Heights, Peosta, formerly of McGregor, died at 3:02 p.m. Wednesday, April 27, 2005, at Mercy Medical Center-Dubuque, following a courageous battle with cancer.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. John the Baptist Church, Peosta. Burial will be in St. John the Baptist Cemetery, Centralia. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. today at Behr Funeral Home, 1491 Main St., Dubuque, where there will be a parish wake service at 3:30 p.m.

Mr. Schwendinger was employed as a foreman and welder at Gencor Bituma in Marquette.

He was born on July 20, 1956, in Dubuque, son of Paul J. and Eleanor M. (Becker) Schwendinger.

He was a graduate of Hempstead High School.

He was a member of St. John the Baptist Church in Peosta.

Joe was an outdoorsman and an avid hunter and fisherman. He especially loved being with his family and his little granddaughter, Bailey.

Surviving are a son, Paul J. (fiancee, Ashlei Williams) Schwendinger, of Reinbeck; a granddaughter, Bailey M. Schwendinger; his mother, Eleanor M. Schwendinger, of Peosta; his former wife, Debra L. Freisinger, of East Dubuque, Ill.; four sisters, Kathleen M. Schwendinger and Pat J. Weber, both of Dubuque, Carol A. (Merlin) Timmerman, of Galena, Ill., and Josephine M. Fehring, of Carroll; five brothers, Paul T. (Elizabeth) Schwendinger, of Guttenberg, James G. (Carol) Schwendinger, of Little Falls, Minn., Ronald J. (Marcie) Schwendinger, of Bernard, Anthony B. (Kay) Schwendinger, of Washington, and Robert J. (Diana) Schwendinger, of Epworth; a sister-in-law, Karen S. Schwendinger, of Epworth; a brother-in-law, Dennis Gotto, of Galena; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Paul J. Schwendinger; a daughter, Jessica M. Schwendinger; a son, Brian A. Schwendinger; a sister, Donna Gotto; a brother, Thomas Schwendinger; and two brothers-in-law, LaVerne Fehring and Rudy Weber.
