Paul C. Mathis, 59, of 2153 Kleine street, proprietor of the Pam Oil company, died at 8:40 Saturday morning in Finley hospital after a 10 day critical illness, although he had been in failing health for several months.
The body is resting at the Egelhof funeral home where friends may call after noon Sunday. Funeral services will be held at Egelhof's at 2:30 Tuesday afternoon and burial will be in Linwood cemetery.
Born Aug. 29, 1887, in Dubuque, he as a lifelong resident here. Mr. Mathis operated the oil company for 20 years and before that was in the retail coal business. He was a member of the Metropolitan lodge of Masons, the Chamber of Commerce, and the board of directors of the Consumers Coal and Supply company. He was also secretary-treasurer of the Temple Securities company.
Mr. Mathis was married July 9, 1915 to Miss Alma Petersen.
Survivors are his wife; one son, Paul C. Mathis, Jr., Northfield, Minn.; one grandchild, Karen Sue Mathis; his mother, Mrs. Mary Mathis, Dubuque, and one brother, William E. Mathis, also of this city. His father, Christ Mathis, died in 1943.
