DIED - in this city, Saturday, February 27, 1886, at 12:30 p.m., Katie Hansen, aged 9 years. Funeral this (Sunday) afternoon at 2 o'clock, frim the family residence, corner of Fourteenth and Washington streets. Burial at Key West cemetery. Friends of the family are invited to attend.

Notes:
Katie, age 8, is enumerated on the 1885 Iowa State census in Dubuque, 3rd ward, Julien twp., Dubuque co. Iowa; living at 1341 Washington st. with her father Peter (34, widowed, b. Michigan, grocer) and siblings Mary (10), William (5), Peter (3) and James (0). There is not another female in the household other than a 16 y/o domestic, Amelia Brasle. All of the Hansen children are shown to have been born in Dubuque co.

The 1880 U.S. census enumerated the family: Peter Hanson (27, teamster, b. MI), Catherine (29, b. IA), Mary (5, b. IA), Catherine (4, b. IA) & Jerry (1, b. IA)

Her gravestone is in Key West, Mt. Olivet cemetery. Also engraved on the stone are: Peter Hanson 1853-1917; Kate w/o Peter Hanson died Feb 15, 1885 aged 34 years; James Hansen, died August 1885, aged 8 mo's & 15 days; Mary Hanson 1858-1912 and William Hanson 1879-1906.
