The death of Mrs. James Wood, wife of the engineer, occurred at a few minutes past twelve o'clock Thursday night, and will be learned with the utmost sorrow by the lady's friends in this city and the community in general. She died from bilious fever and severe nervous prostration.

She was a native of Ireland, aged 53 years, and her maiden name was Annie Smith. She was married in New York in June, 1855, removing with her husband to Dubuque the same year. The family lived for many years at Lorimier's meadow, below the city, removing about five years ago to the present residence, corner Bluff and Fourth streets.

She leaves three sons, Frank Jr., Charley and Willie, and three daughters, Maggie, Mamie and Hattie. She leaves also a sister at Elmira, N.Y., who has been telegraphed for.

The funeral will occur on Sunday. Services will be held at the cathedral and interment will be in Key West cemetery.

The painful causes which no doubt hastened her demise are known to the public and the tender sympathies of all good people go out to the afflicted family whose irreparable loss is to them so poignant.

Mrs. Woods [sic] was a christian woman and lived a pure and noble life. As a helpmeet, tender and true to the husband of her choice, she shared the battles of life with him and passed away in the full anticipation of a blessed hereafter; as a mother she loved her children dearly and to them the sweet remembrance of their mother's love will touch a tender chord. May the giver of all good gifts cherish, comfort and care for them in all their affliction.
