More Sorrow
Again death has entered the household of F. T. Walker and borne away a second child. Yesterday morning, his only little son, John Francis, died of diphtheria age the age of 4 years and 10 months. One week ago he was full of life, a bright and active child, today his little feet are quiet, his soft hands rest upon his unstained heart, his bright eyes are curtained and he sleeps a sleep that is sweet to him, though it be full of bitter agony to hearts that loved him. This afternoon his remains will be taken to the cemetery and laid beside those of another innocent, the echo of whose voice has not yet died on the ear of the suffering parents. The grief that is there’s cannot be fully fancy when they lay the form of their second child beside that of the other on whose grave the clay that has not yet lost his freshness. In such a double infliction words are powerless to afford consolation. Nothing save the voice of religion can throw sunshine upon such a dark picture, nothing but the soul-felt consciousness that the earth has closed over the little darlings, not forever, can even partially soften the agony that the parents suffer in the loss of their children.
Loved one has whispered that someone id blest,
Free from earth’s trial and taking a sweet rest.
Another has gone to angelic bliss.
One less to cherish, and one less to kiss,
One more departed to heaven’s bright shore,
Pass the gate softly, there’s crape on the door.
