Evelyn R. Clemens, 81, of 801 Davis St., formerly of 2925 Shiras Ave., died at 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 30, 1999, at home.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, with burial in Mount Calvary Cemetery. There will be no visitation. The Behr Funeral Home, 1491 Main St., is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Clemens worked at the former General Dry Battery Factory and the Galena (Ill.) Glove and Mitten Factory.

She was born on Dec. 20, 1917, in Beaver Dam, Wis., daughter of Joseph Sr. and Rosina (Kovacsevics) Strumberger. She married Albert J. "Abe" Clemens on May 17, 1941, at St. Francis Church, Balltown, Iowa; he died on April 21, 1972.

After her children were born, Evelyn was a full-time wife, mother and grandmother. She was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church and its rosary society. She enjoyed being with her grandchildren and playing cards.

Surviving are two daughters, Jean M. (Richard) Stierman, of Dubuque, and Kathy A. (Leeds) Pickering, of Cheyenne, Wyo.; two sons, Richard J. (Pat) Clemens and Albert J. "A.J." Clemens Jr., both of Dubuque; 14 grandchildren, Mike, Mark, Keri, Kelly, Christopher, Jennifer, Jeffrey, Laura, Lance, Kate Leeds, Rosina, Stephani, Shane and Sheyanne; seven great-grandchildren, Tammy, Tracy, Austin, Jordan, Noah, Alex and Alexis.

She was preceded in death by three infant children, Carol Lynn, Ronald and Donald; a son, Michael, killed in the Vietnam War in January 1967; and a brother, Joseph Strumberger Jr.

Memorials may be given to Hospice of Dubuque, 2255 Kennedy Road, Dubuque, Iowa 52002.
