Eleanor Mary Vize, 93, of Dubuque, passed away Monday, June 17, 2019, at University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 12:30 pm Friday, June 21, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Friends may greet the family from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm Friday, June 21, at Hoffmann Schneider & Kitchen Funeral Home and Cremation Service 3860 Asbury Rd.

Eleanor was born May 21, 1926, in Dubuque, the daughter of Victor Henry and Cathryn Mary (Shinstock) Hoerstmann. She married Joseph Edward Vize on April 3, 1948 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Dubuque. He preceded her in death on December 26, 1988.

Eleanor was a longtime member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, where she was a member of the Rosary Society. She volunteered her time at the Dubuque Arboretum and Mercy Hospital.

Eleanor is survived by her children, Nancy (Bill) Schofield of Shelton, NE, Richard (Glenda Sue) Vize, Gerald “Jerry” (Eva) Vize, both of Dubuque, Sharon (Gary) Schack of Cantonment, FL, Jean (Marv) Junk of Marion, IA, Mary Ann “Bid” (Gary) Hubanks, of Dubuque, Joseph (fiancée Bonnie) Vize of Cedar Rapids, IA, Donald (Kari) Vize, Susann (Tony) Theisen, and James (Stacy) Vize, all of Dubuque, and; 23 grandchildren, 36 great- grandchildren;one great-great grandchild; and her brother Norman (Mary Ann) Hoerstman of Hazel Green, WI.

Mom loved her family and all their “smiley faces”, we were all her favorites. She had the ability to spoil all ten of us, and all of her many grandkids.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; her son in infancy, Thomas; her daughter in law, Robin Vize; two brothers, Vernon and Marcellus; and her sister, Virginia (Robert) Vize.

Memorials may be given to Dubuque Arboretum and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
