Entombment will be in Linwood Cemetery Mausoleum, where military honors will be accorded by the Dubuque Marine Corps League.

Frank was born on August 4, 1916, in Dubuque, son of Frank J. and Rose (Nutt) Winders.

Frank was a proud lifelong resident of Dubuque who honorably served his country with the U.S. Navy during WWII. He was united in marriage to the love of his life, Elizabeth M. “Betty” Peters, on July 2, 1937, in Dubuque and they celebrated 65+ years together before she was sadly called home on June 10, 2003. Frank was an active and long time member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, as well as a former member of the Eagles Club. He was a huge sports fan who enjoyed bowling in his younger days, as well as watching basketball and his beloved Chicago Cubs every chance he could. He also enjoyed sitting down around the card table for a spirited game of Euchre with friends and family. Above all Frank loved spending time with his family and traveling the country seeing the sights with Betty was one of his favorite activities. We are extremely grateful for the 102 years we have been blessed to have Frank here with us on this Earth, the changes he has seen in his lifetime are truly astonishing and we hope to all be as fortunate as he was. We will miss him dearly, but know that he is now happily reunited with all of his loved ones in Heaven, where he is free of the health issues that he has faced these past few months.

Those left to cherish Frank’s memory include

his only son,
John F. (Tina) Winders, East Dubuque, IL;

his grandchildren,
Kelli Peters, Scottsdale, AZ,
Angela (Dan) Maro, St. Donatus, IA
and Craig (Rachel) Winders, Avondale, AZ;

and his great-grandchildren,

Frank was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Betty Winders; 2 sisters, Helen (Delbert) Pfohl and Gertrude (Ray) Schmerbach; 2 brothers, Raymond (Dorothy) Winders and Charles (Sylvia) Winders; and his special friend, Val Carew.

Frank’s family would like to thank the wonderful staff members of The Rose, Stonehill and Hospice of Dubuque, for all of their kind, compassionate and loving care of Frank these past few years.
