James A. Maiers, 90, of Dyersville, Iowa, formerly of Holy Cross passed away on Wednesday, May 1, 2019, at MercyOne in Dyersville.
Visitation will be held from 2-7 p.m. Sunday, May 5, 2019, at Kramer Funeral Home in Holy Cross. Visitation will continue from 9-10 am at Kramer Funeral Home prior to funeral services. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, May 6, 2019, at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Holy Cross with burial in the church cemetery. Rev. Noah Diehm will officiate.
Jim was born February 8, 1929, in Holy Cross, Iowa, the son of John and Rose (Ungs) Maiers. He married Mary Ann Joester on August 13, 1949. Together they enjoyed 69 years of marriage.
Jim co-owned and operated Maiers Implement & Hardware in Holy Cross for 30 years and later owned and operated Maiers Ag. Service.
He loved his farm and all aspects of farming. He most enjoyed his time with his family; his children, granddaughters and great grandchildren were a special joy to him.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Ann, three sons: Steve Maiers of Holy Cross, and his children, Stacy, Michele, Julie, Emily, and Morgan; Bill (Jackie) Maiers of Dubuque, and his step-children, Chad, Casey, Courtney, and Chris; Jeff (Lois) Maiers of Salado, TX, and his children, Nicholette and Katherine; one daughter, Ann (Arthur) Weinstein of Albuquerque, NM, a sister, Sr. Alice Maiers of Cedar Rapids and his sister-in-law, Norma Kerper of Dubuque.
He was preceded in death by his parents, parents-in-law, August (Gus) and Hilda Joester; siblings: Charles Maiers and Rosemary Lane; in-laws: James Joester, Al Kerper and John Lane.
The family would like to thank Dr. David Ringold and his staff for their compassionate care. Also, a thank you to the nursing staff of MercyOne in Dubuque, especially Laura, and the Dyersville Hospital nursing staff.
