Tom was born on August 9th, 1941 to Thomas "T.J." and Lucille (McDonald) Carr of Bernard, Iowa. In 1958 he graduated from St. Patrick's High School in Bernard, Iowa. Tom married Sandy (McCabe) Carr on September 25th, 1965. They celebrated their 53rd wedding anniversary in 2018.

Tom spent 24 years working at the Dubuque Pack. He then went on to own and operate the Corner Tap and Club Esquire. He spent his later years as an extremely talented and successful salesman with Orkin Pest Control earning Top Sales awards for six straight years. Tom retired from Molo Companies in 2005 after 9 years of service in sales.

He served in the Iowa National Guard from 1963 until 1969; and was a long-time member of the Knights of Columbus.

Tom spent his childhood on the family farm working hard and having fun. Tom, like any good Irishmen, was known for his cheerful smile, "Honest Stories" and an occasional prank or two while enjoying time away from work with his friends and family. Tom grew up playing baseball in Bernard and always enjoyed taking his family to a Cubby's game each summer, and a good old backyard game of catch with his kids. Tom also enjoyed golfing, hunting, fishing, the Hawkeyes, the Bears, and Euchre with his friends and family.

Tom was a wonderful husband, father, grandpa, and friend who made the best out of any situation by sharing his incredible smile and laughter. He taught us all the importance of hard work, dedication, and perseverance to get through life's challenges and obstacles. He displayed these qualities and courage for 14 years after his initial stroke, continuing to battle right up to the end, never giving up. Tom will be greatly missed by all his many friends, and most of all, his family. His smile and memories will continue to shine on, providing us with laughter and happiness forever.

He is survived by his loving wife Sandy; daughters Tracy (Carr) Dolliff, and Lisa Carr; his son Todd (Michelle) Carr; grandchildren Owen and Callum Carr, Madison and Meghan Dolliff, and Yonni Zelinskas. Siblings Mary Lou McMahon and Carol (Bob) Hutchins.

Tom was preceded in death by his parents; mother and father in law Cletus and Virginia McCabe. Brother in law D.J. McMahon and a nephew Dave McMahon.

In lieu of flowers a Thomas W. Carr memorial fund has been established.

The family would like to extend special thanks to Dr. Mark Moore, the staff at Stonehill and Hospice of Dubuque.
