DIES AT FAMILY HOME NEAR
BALLTOWN SUNDAY, FUNERAL TUESDAY

John P. Klein, 90, one of Dubuque’s Counties earliest settlors, was summoned by death at the family residence, near Balltowm Sunday morning at 2:30 o’clock. He had been ailing for only a short time. Death was due to infirmities of old age.Mr. Klein was born in Hessen, Darmstadt, Germany, December 13, 1832, and came to this country, settling on a farm near Balltown, in 1859. Since that time he had always resided in this community.
On Sunday, November 27, last year, Mr. and Mrs. Klein celebrated their sixtieth wedding anniversary with members of their families and other relatives at their county home near Balltown. They were wedded in this city at St. Raphael’s Cathedral.
Besides the widow, the deceased is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Mary Matz and Mrs. Elizabeth Gassmann, both residents of Clinton, Iowa; four sons, John G., Peter, Alois, and George, all of Balltown; thirty-four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Mr. Klein was a faithful member of the Catholic Church and in the hours before his death he was comforted by the rites of that religion. His six children and a number of his grandchildren were at his bedside when the summons came.
Funeral will be held Tuesday from the family residence to St. Francis Church in Balltown. Interment will be made in the adjoining cemetery.
