Sister Mary Bosco (Mary Lou) Ryder, OSF, of Clare House, Dubuque, died Sunday, November 25, 2018, at Clare House. The Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday, November 28 at 1 p.m. In Francis Chapel. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. today with Funeral Vigil at 7 p.m. In Francis Chapel. She was born September 10, 1930 in Waterville, Iowa, daughter of William E. and Catherine (Ryan) Ryder. She entered the Sisters of St. Francis on August 25, 1949 and made final profession of vows on August 12, 1955. Sister received her bachelor's degree in education at Briar Cliff College in Sioux City, Iowa. She ministered as teacher in Iowa at Pocahontas, Holy Trinity in Dubuque, Monticello, Stacyville, Dyersville, and St. Mary's in Waterloo. She also ministered in Crescent City, California. Sister is survived by her sister-in-law and her husband,, Janette (Ryder) and Jerry Blong, nieces and nephews and her Franciscan sisters, with whom she shared over 68 years of her life. Sister was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Donald and her sister, Betty.
