Donald Leslie Ohmert, 83, of Dubuque, died Friday, March 27, 2015, at home.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 1, 2015, at Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2959 Rockdale Rd, with the Rev. Dianne Grace officiating. Burial will follow in Center Grove Cemetery with military detail accorded by American Legion Post #6. Friends may call from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m Tuesday, March 31st, 2015, at Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory.

Don was born on December 21, 1931, in Dubuque, Iowa, the son of George and Ruth (Bradley) Ohmert. He married Ethel Bakula on February 1, 1958, in North Buena Vista.

Don worked first as a bee farmer on his father's farm, then as the owner of Ohmert's Excavating, and Ohmert's Lawn and Sports, he also owned several rental properties.

Don enjoyed traveling, hunting, snowmobiling, camping and Euchre and has visited almost every state in the U.S. He also enjoyed traveling outside the United States, especially to Canada, Mexico, Panama Canal and Switzerland.

He is survived by his 4 children, Debra (Marvin) Eagle, of Yates Center, KS., Sandra (Ohmert) Clifton, of Colfax, CA, Roger (Carol) Ohmert, of Dubuque, IA, and Douglas (Peggy) Ohmert, of La Motte, IA; 10 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ethel, parents, brother Wayne, and 2 sisters, Elda Ohmert and Alice Scholz.

Memorials may be given to Hospice of Dubuque, Home Instead Senior Care, or American Legion Post #6.
