Lucille M. "Lou" Hartford, 93, of Farley, Iowa, passed away Tuesday, September 18, 2018 at Oak Crest Manor in Dyersville, Iowa.
Friends and relatives of Lou may call from 4 to 8 p.m., Friday, September 21, 2018 at the Reiff Funeral Home in Farley, Iowa, where a wake service will be held at 3:30 p.m. and the Farley American Legion Auxiliary service will be held at 6:30 p.m. Friends may also call after 9 a.m. on Saturday, September 22, 2018 at the funeral home.
Services for Lou will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, September 22, 2018 at the St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Farley, Iowa, with Rev. Michael Schueller Presiding. Burial will be held at St. Joseph's cemetery.Lou was born July 6, 1925 in Dubuque, Iowa, daughter of George and Gertrude (Koenig) Frommelt. She attended Sacred Heart Catholic School in Dubuque, Iowa. On August 16, 1943 she was united in marriage to Robert W. Hartford at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Dubuque, Iowa. He preceded her in death on August 30, 1982.
Lou was a homemaker and caregiver and enjoyed bowling for many years with the Farley Women's Leagues and playing cards with friends. She loved to see the grandkids and great grandchildren come to visit.
God has given us opportunities to show love to a dear mom who loved us all so well when she was able and strong. Her smiles and laughter and quirky ways and funny words warms our hearts.
She was a member of St. Joseph's Parish in Farley, Iowa and the Farley American Legion Auxiliary.
She is survived by two sons, Michael Hartford of Dubuque, IA, Timothy (Sue) Hartford of Wonewoc, WI; one daughter, Debra (Jerry) Jasper of Farley, IA; one son-in-law, Milo Mueller of Dubuque, IA; 11 grandchildren; Greg (Jeni) Hartford, Gerry (Sherry) Hartford, Jeff (Amber Marie) Hartford, Kathy Pickering, Lisa (Tom) Rubbo, Koleen (Nugene) Parks, Elli Kitto, Josh (Sara) Jasper, Tom (Heidi) Jasper, Doug (Jenny) Jasper; 20 great grandchildren; 7 great great grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Lumilda Frommelt of Dubuque, IA; one brother-in-law, Richard Tranel of Monroe, WI; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one son, John M. Hartford; one daughter, Sharon A. Mueller; one grandson, Gary Hartford, one great grandson, Michael Hartford; daughter-in-law, Jayne Hartford; three brothers, Donald (Mildred) Frommelt, Art (Dorothy) Frommelt, and George Frommelt; five sisters, Marcella (Nick) Behnke, Ruth (Herman) Behnke, Bernice (Earl) Kiefer, Madonna Tranel and Marie Frommelt.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to Hospice of Dubuque.
The family would like to thank the staff at Oak Crest Manor for all their loving care and support they gave to mom.
