July 27, 1860

Died on Friday last, the 27th inst. at his residence in Vernon township in this county, Patrick Madigan, one of the most esteemed and respected citizens of Dubuque. The deceased came to Iowa with his family in 1850, and settled on a farm in Vernon township; where he resided till his death. Amiable in disposition and kindly of heart, it was a pleasure to him to be hospitable, and his house was scarcely ever without a guest, who always felt at home in his company.
Although Mr. Madigan reached an age in life when the departure of men to another world is looked for in the order of nature, still he will leave a void, not only in his own household, but among a large circle of ac-quaintances, which it will take time to fill.
His funeral will take place at 9 o'clock this (Sunday) morning, from his late residence, whence it will proceed to the Monastery for burial service and interment of his body. His frineds and acquaintances are invited with-out further notice.

note: survived by wife Margaret & children John, James, Michael, Ellen Walsh, Mary Margaret and another daughter. All were born in Ireland.
