Giovanna "Jennie" Gagliano of Dubuque passed away on Wednesday, August 16, 2017, at her niece's home.

Funeral Mass will be 10:30 a.m. today at Church of the Resurrection with Fr. Joseph Hauer presiding. Family greeted friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, August 18, 2017, at Hoffmann Schneider & Kitchen Funeral Home, 3860 Asbury Road, with a 7:30 p.m. Scripture Service led by Deacon Jim Schmidt. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery.

Jennie was born January 21, 1929, in New York City, New York, the daughter of Angelo J. and Mary A. (Majuri) Gagliano. After working at the Long Island Star Journal in New York, she moved to St. Louis in 1960. Jennie then worked at the St. Louis Review, followed by the St. Louis Post Dispatch. She retired in 1992 to Dubuque. She was a member of the Church of the Resurrection.

Survivors include her sister in-law, Jan Gagliano; nephew, Frank (Shari) Gagliano; nieces, Jean (Terry) Gagliano-Hilkin, Mary (Jim) Schmidt, and Teresa Gagliano; great nieces and nephews, Michael (Jennifer) Gagliano, Angela (Jason) Cox, Brian (Michelle) Gagliano, Tricia (Bob) Kilburg, Nicole (E.J.) Droessler, Tim (Penny) Hilkin, Jeremy (Becky) Schmidt, Gina David, Janelle (Jeff) Menz, and Joel Schmidt; great-great nieces and nephews, Ben, Kara, Melody, Ethan, Ryan, Mary Gianna, Kourtney, Tamie, Hannah, May, Garrett, Ella, Kylie, Charlie Angelo, Cooper, and Nora; special friends, Pat Rich, and Colton (Lindsey) Rich. Jennie was preceded in death by her parents; and a brother and sister in-law, Angelo and Eleanor Gagliano.

The family would like to thank the Church of the Resurrection staff, especially Fr. Joseph Hauer, the staff at The Rose of Dubuque, and Hospice of Dubuque, especially Dawn, for their care and concern.
