CASCADE, Iowa - Elaine Adele (Oakley) Ganfield, 87, of Cascade, died peacefully at 12:16 p.m. Thursday, May 1, 2014, at Shady Rest Care Center, Cascade.

Services for Elaine will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 10, at Community Presbyterian Church, Cascade, with Charles Hawkins presiding. Burial will be in Cascade Community Cemetery. Friends and relatives of Elaine may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, May 9, at Reiff Funeral Home, Cascade. Friends also may call after 9 a.m. Saturday at the church.

Elaine was born on Feb. 20, 1927, in Dubuque, daughter of Joseph and Adele (Wagner) Oakley. She was a graduate of Senior High School in Dubuque.

On June 16, 1946, she was united in marriage to Richard L. Ganfield at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Dubuque; he preceded her in death on Nov. 19, 2001.

The couple traveled, following electrical construction work around the country. Elaine worked in the banking industry in the earlier years of their marriage. The couple returned to the family farm in rural Cascade and raised their family there. Later, Elaine studied nursing and became one of the first CNAs at Shady Rest Care Center.

The couple moved to Cascade in 1978, and Elaine moved to Claddagh Court after Richard's death.

She was a member of Cascade Presbyterian Church.

She is survived by five children, Doug (Rose) Ganfield, of Waterloo, Darinda Jo Ganfield, of North Liberty, David (Cathy) Ganfield, of Des Moines, Debra (Steve) Schueller, of Grafton, N.D., and Denise (Robert) Knaack, of Pierson; 11 grandchildren, Aaron (Evy) Ganfield, of Aplington, Jeremy (Trish) Ganfield and Dustin (Tanya) Ganfield, both of Waterloo, Gregory (Kristen) Ganfield, of Des Moines, Emily Ganfield, of Lafayette, Ind., Jared Schueller, of Grafton, N.D., Richard (Shanna) Schueller, of Opalousas, La., Rebecca (Jeremy) Schmidt, of Bismarck, N.D., Vernon (Karla) Knaack, of Correctionville, Lance (Kara) Knaack, of Grimes, and Andrew (Megan) Knaack, of Panora; 14 great-grandchildren with one on the way; a sister, Jeanette Oakley, of Rodgers, Ark.; a brother, Dean Oakley, of Holiday, Fla.; two brothers-in-law, Randall (Kathy) Ganfield, of El Paso, Texas, and Dr. Roger Ganfield, of Guernsey, Wyo.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Carlton Oakley, and his wife, Dorothy.
