Robert W. Curoe BERNARD, Iowa - Robert W. Curoe, 85, formerly of Bernard, died Wednesday, Oct. 26, 2011, at his home in Dubuque. Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 31, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Fillmore, with the Rev. Douglas Loeckel, the Rev. Bob McAleer and the Rev. Neil Manternach officiating, with Deacon Marvin Recker assisting. Burial will be in the church cemetery, where military rites will be accorded by the Cascade American Legion Post 528. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 30, at Reiff Funeral Home, Cascade, where there will be a prayer service at 4 p.m.

He was born on Oct. 28, 1925, in Bernard, son of William and Marie (Powers) Curoe. He received his education at Loras Academy. Robert served in the Army from 1950 to 1951. He married Joyce (McAleer) on Nov. 27, 1954, in Monticello. Robert spent 14 years as a ski instructor at Sundown, was active in PFLAG and the Human Rights Campaign, was inducted into the Dubuque County Cattleman's Hall of Fame, was director of Dubuque County Pork Producers and was a farmer and cattle feeder for many years.

Surviving are six children, Michael (Estie) Curoe, of St. Louis, Joann (Devin) Stephens, of St. Onge, S.D., Kevin (Darlene), of Bernard, Carol (Susan), of Minneapolis, Patty (Steve) Telgener, of Golden, Colo., and Tim (Kristi) of Chaska, Minn.; 14 grandchildren; a great-grandchild; a sibling, Sr. Janita Curoe, BVM; and Mona Hanley, a dear friend of four years.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce; his parents; two brothers, John and Richard; and two sisters, Katherine (Curoe) Pfab and Sr. Mary Curoe, BVM.
