HOLY CROSS, Iowa -Vincent N. Maiers, 85, of Holy Cross, died Thursday, Aug. 24, 2006, at home.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the Holy Cross Catholic Church, with the Rev. Michael Podhajsky officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Kramer Funeral Home, Holy Cross, where there will be a parish scripture service at 5 p.m., the Sherrman-Peterson American Legion Post 626, will meet at 5:30 p.m. and the Catholic Order of Foresters rosary at 7 p.m.

He was born on Sept. 29, 1920, in Luxemburg, son of Nicholas V. and Anna (Clemen) Maiers. He married Bernice S. Gaul on Feb. 19, 1946, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Luxemburg; she preceded him in death on March 26, 2003. Together they farmed in the Holy Cross area until their retirement in 1980.

Vince was a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters and the Holy Cross Holy Name Society.

Surviving are six sons, Ronald (Therese), James, Gary and Mark, all of Holy Cross, Dennis (Patty), of West Des Moines, and Dale (Joan), of Duluth, Minn.; a daughter, Joyce Bettcher, of Farley; 11 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; and two sisters-in-law, Laverne Maiers, of Kansas City, Mo., and Melinda Maiers, of Garnavillo.

He also was preceded in death by three brothers, Reynold, Edmund and Leonard Maiers; and two sisters, Lucille Zewen and Clotilda McQuillen.
