HOLY CROSS, Iowa - Mary Connie Maiers, 57, of Holy Cross, died Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2005, at home, following a lengthy illness.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Holy Cross Catholic Church, with the Rev. Thomas Zinkula officiating. Burial will be in the Holy Cross Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 9 p.m. Friday at Kramer Funeral Home, Holy Cross, where there will be a parish scripture service at 4:30 p.m., and members of the Sherman Peterson American Legion Post 656 will meet at 7 p.m.

Mrs. Maiers worked at Mercy Hospital in Dubuque from 1968 to 1978, and for the Western Dubuque Community School District from 1978 to 1996. She also was an emergency medical technician with the Holy Cross Volunteer Ambulance Service for 13 years.

She was born on March 31, 1947, in Dubuque, daughter of Joseph and Stella (Dolan) Gaul. She married Bernard Maiers on July 20, 1968, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Luxemburg.

She graduated in 1966 from Leo High School, Holy Cross, and Mercy School of Nursing, Cedar Rapids, in 1968.

Connie was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church and its Rosary Society.

Her greatest joys in life were her husband of 36 years, their children and grandchildren.

Surviving are her husband, Bernie; two daughters, Kim (Rob) Brimeyer, of Holy Cross, and Tammy (Matt) Nauman, of Cascade; two sons, Scott (Jenny) Maiers, of Iowa City, and Kenny Maiers, of Holy Cross; her mother, Mrs. Stella Gaul, of Dyersville; four grandchildren, Carson Nauman, Morgan Brimeyer and Braden and Alyssa Maiers; a step grandson, Cody Brimeyer; two brothers, David (Carol) Gaul, of Guttenberg, and Donald Gaul, of Luxemburg; two sisters, Marlene Koppes, of Cascade, and Verna (Ray) Greenwood, of Farley; and sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Katie (Roger) Steffen, of Luxemburg, Annie (Dave) Krapfl and Rosie (Greg) Helle, both of Edgewood, Maggie (Vernon) Bockenstedt, of Earlville, Carol Lattner and Dave (Diane) Maiers, both of Dubuque, and Shirley Maiers, of Sherrill.

She was preceded in death by her father, Joseph Gaul; and a brother-in-law, Joe Maiers.
