DYERSVILLE, Iowa - Alfred E. "Fritz" Lansing, 84, of Hopkinton, formerly of Dyersville, died Monday, May 31, 2004, at the home of his son, William Lansing, of rural Hopkinton.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Francis Xavier Basilica, Dyersville, with the Rev. Daniel Keppler officiating. Burial will be in St. Boniface Cemetery, New Vienna, where military rites will be accorded by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7736 and the American Legion Post 137. Friends may call from 4 to 9 p.m. today at Kramer Funeral Home, Dyersville, where there will be a parish scripture service at 4:30 p.m., and a Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7736/American Legion Post 137 service at 7 p.m.

He served in the Army during World War II in the European, African and Middle Eastern theaters.

He was born on Aug. 23, 1919, in New Vienna, son of William and Catherine (Hoeger) Lansing.

He married Irene Kluesner on June 19, 1946, in Farley; she preceded him in death on May 30, 2001. Together they farmed for 25 years, until 1971, on the family farm near New Vienna. He started selling insurance for Farm Bureau in 1969 and moved to Dyersville in 1971. He was a real estate agent for Dominic Goodman and Bob Smith Realty.

Fritz enjoyed reading and spending time with his family.

Surviving are two sons, William (Kathy) Lansing, of Hopkinton, and Steven (Irene) Lansing, of Maquoketa; two daughters, Mary (Tony Greif) Lansing, of Boulder, Colo., and Janet (Terry Murphy) Lansing, of Louisville, Colo.; 10 grandchildren, Ben, Josh, Brett, Tim and Jenni Lansing, Shelly and Nikki Flynn, Katie Greif and Michael and Elizabeth Murphy; and a sister, Rose Kluesner, of Luxemburg.

He also was preceded in death by three sisters, Anastacia and Dorothy Oberbroeckling and Hilda Hullerman; and two brothers, Elmer and Gilbert Lansing.
