Ralph L Kluesner, 72, died Thursday, Aug. 21, 2003,in Mercy Medical Center, Dyersville, after a brief bout with cancer. Services - 11 a.m. today, St. Boniface Catholic Church, New Vienna, by the Rev. John O'Connor. Burial - St. Boniface Cemetery. Military rites by Legion Post 137 of Dyersville. Visitation was held from 3 to 9 p.m. Aug. 22 at Kramer Funeral Home, Dyersville, with a parish Scripture service at 5 p.m., a Legion Post 137 service at 7 p.m. and a COF rosary at 8 p.m.

Ralph was born June 16, 1931, in New Vienna, the son of Raymond and Luella Buenker Kluesner. He graduated from St. Boniface High School, after which he served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. After his service, he began working for John Deere Dubuque Works until retirement in 1987. Ralph was a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters, St. Boniface Holy Name Society, Legion Post 137 and Local 94 of the UAW, and he served on the New Vienna City Council from 1989 to 1999. Ralph enjoyed gardening and traveling and was a great sports fan, enjoying the Cubs, Bears, Bulls and Iowa Hawkeyes.

Survivors include four sisters, Helen Reardon of Chippewa Falls, Wis., Sister Marian Kluesner, FSPA, of El Paso, Texas, Jean Kluesner of New Vienna and Elizabeth (Leonard) Leick of Epworth; a brother, Robert (Bridget) Kluesner of Roseville, Minn.; a special friend, Mary Althoff of Marion; a sister-in-law, Mary Jane Kluesner of Dyersville; and a number of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Francis Kluesner; a brother-in-law, Francis Reardon; and a niece, Maureen Reardon.
