HOLY CROSS, Iowa - Irma L. (Henkels) Kennicker, 82, of Holy Cross, died peacefully Thursday, May 15, 2003, at home.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, in Rickardsville, with the Rev. Thomas Zinkula, officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 9 p.m. today at Kramer Funeral Home, Holy Cross, where there will be a parish scripture service at 4 p.m.

She was born on Oct. 19, 1920, in Sherrill, daughter of Roy and Pauline (Hehl) Henkels.

She married Raymond F. Kennicker on Oct. 6, 1953, at Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Sherrill. Together they farmed in the Holy Cross area for 48 years.

She worked at the former Battery Factory and for various families doing housework. She was an active member of St. Joseph Parish, and its rosary society in Rickardsville. She loved her cats, making pies, fixing dinner for anyone who was there, gardening and her fruit trees. She was good to her grandchildren.

Surviving are two daughters, Kathy R. (Terry) Steffen, of Holy Cross, and Janet P. (James) Reuter, of Zwingle; two sons, John F. (Linda) Kennicker and Joseph A. Kennicker, both of Holy Cross; 10 grandchildren, Eric, Todd, April, Tracy (fiance Jeremy Burds) and Tammy Steffen, Nick and Emily Kennicker, and Adam, Andrew and Kristin Reuter; and a sister, Rosemary Woodhouse.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ray, on Dec. 21, 1996.
