Telegraph Herald (Dubuque, IA) - Wednesday, June 22, 2016

FARLEY, Iowa - Jean Anne Hoefer, 84, of Denver, Colo., formerly of Farley, died Sunday, June 5, 2016, at Denver Hospice Care Center surrounded by family after a short battle with cancer.

Graveside service at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 25, at St. Boniface Church Cemetery in New Vienna, followed by lunch at Country Junction Restaurant, Dyersville.

Jean Anne was born on March 8, 1932, in Worthington, daughter of Rose and Albin Hoefer. She lived in Farley and Dubuque, before moving in 1955 to Denver with her sister, Bette. Later, they moved to Santa Monica, Calif., and lived there for over 20 years before returning to Denver in 1981. She worked as a bookkeeper for the Denver Water Department for 15 years, retiring in 1997.

Jean Anne was an avid reader and enjoyed many wonderful travel experiences over the years. She was a regular at the workout facility at Windsor Garden Condominiums and was a dedicated volunteer at Good Shepherd Catholic Church and 9Health Fair. She loved her family and always found time to visit Dubuque. As children, her nieces and nephews remember Jean Anne and Bette as the cool single aunts from California and looked forward to their visits at Christmas, impressed by their fashionable mini-skirts and long manicured nails.

Surviving are her sisters, Madonna Kramer and Grace (Tom) Ball, of Dubuque; brother, Louis Hoefer, of Denver; sister-in-law, Gene Hoefer, of Omaha; and 18 nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Rose and Albin Hoefer; sisters, Ruth Hoefer, Bette Hoefer and Eileen Arling; brother, Irvin "Bob" Hoefer; brothers-in-law, Martin Arling and Jerry Kramer; niece, Jean Hoefer and nephew, Peter Hoefer.

A special thanks to Madonna, Grace, niece Kathleen Polishuk, Carol Sliter Hoefer and Jean's friends at Windsor Gardens for their support during her illness.
