ASBURY, Iowa - Walter D. Katuin, 83, of Asbury, passed away Saturday, July 1, 2017, at Luther Manor Grand Meadows.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, July 5, at Church of the Resurrection, Dubuque. Rev. Joseph Hauer will officiate. Burial will be in Dubuque Memorial Gardens, where military honors will be accorded by the Dubuque Marine Corps League. Friends may greet the family from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, July 3, at Hoffmann Schneider & Kitchen Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 3860 Asbury Road, Dubuque, where there will be a prayer service at 6:30 p.m. Friends may also greet the family from 9 to 10 a.m. on Wednesday, July 5, at the funeral home.

Walter was born October 21, 1933, in New Lisbon, WI, the son of Richard and Josephine (Harris) Katuin. He served his country with the U.S. Army from 1956 until his honorable discharge in 1958. He married Mary Scheibe on October 6, 1962, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Dubuque. Walter owned and operated Katuin Brothers Trucking for many years. He was a member of Kiwanis International and the Iowa Motor Truck Association. Walter and Mary enjoyed ballroom and country dancing together, and were members of the All Star Country Dancers. He had a passion for music, especially the steel guitar. Walter played guitar with the Over the Hill Gang Band, with whom he entertained at many local nursing homes.

Walter is survived by his wife, Mary, of Asbury; three sons, Kevin (Cindy) Katuin, of McKinney, TX, Ken Katuin, of Denver, CO, and Kurt (Jill) Katuin, of Cedar Falls, IA; three grandchildren, Allison and Madelynn Katuin, and Rachel; four great-grandchildren, Stella Trahan, and Greyson, Gabriel, and Genevieve Villarreal; his brother, Allan (Iva) Katuin, of Daytona Beach, FL; his sisters, Marcella (David) Hough, of Reedsburg, WI, and Ada (Roger) Naylor, of Heavener, OK; and his in-laws, Jean Hammel, Joan Schmitt, Judy (Dick) Hierstein, and Joyce (Dick) Leibfreid. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother-in-law, Tom Hammel. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Walter D. Katuin Memorial Fund, which will be distributed among his favorite charities. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.hskfh.com.
