GUTTENBERG, Iowa - Wilmer Carl "Bill" Pierce, 68, of U.S. 52 South, Guttenberg, formerly of Epworth, died at 5:24 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 26, 1999, at Mercy Medical Center-Dubuque.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Epworth United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Dubuque Memorial Gardens, south of Dubuque, where military rites will be accorded by the Amvets Post 15. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. today at Reiff Funeral Home, Epworth.

Mr. Pierce worked for Warren Trucking and later with Ruan Trucking until his retirement. He received the Million Mile Safety Award for trucking.

He was born on April 19, 1931, in Strawberry Point, son of Harry and Gladys E. (Whitlock) Pierce. He married Gloria Hernandez on July 14, 1951, in San Antonio, Texas.

He received his education in the Strawberry Point-area schools. He served in the Air Force for 17 years, and served during the Korean War. He was a member of Amvets Post 15, of Guttenberg.

Surviving are his wife, Gloria Pierce, of Guttenberg; four sons, Robert Pierce (and his friend, Susan Francois), of East Dubuque, Ill., William "Wayne" (and his friend, Mary Horn), of Needles, Calif., and Scott Pierce and Todd Pierce (and his friend, Tonya White), both of Guttenberg; three daughters, Shirley (Tom) Vogt, of Guttenberg, Linda Bertling (and her friend, Bruce), of Washington, and Loretta (Bill) Steele, of Clarmont, Fla.; four brothers, Bob "Al" (Pat) Pierce, of Epworth, Dick (Sandy) Pierce, of Guttenberg, Jerry (Geri) Pierce, of Cascade, and Tom (Dot) Pierce, of Orlando, Fla.; five sisters, Jane (Dale) Sweet, of Giard, Donna (Mike) Loetz, of Mahobi Valley, Ariz., Jean (Ed) Wall, of Epworth, Rita Bailey, of Gadaen, Ala., and Vera Finzel (and her friend, Darwin Goeschel), of Cascade; 21 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Myrtle and Martha; a brother, Perry; and his grandmother, Martha Whitlock.

A Wilmer C. Pierce Memorial Fund has been established.
