George F. Harmon, 89, of 10418 Emberwood Drive, passed away Sunday, May 20, 2012, at home surrounded by his family.

Services will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday, May 23, at Hoffmann Schneider & Kitchen Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 3860 Asbury Road, with the Rev. Dewayne Teig officiating. Burial will be in Dubuque Memorial Gardens, south of Dubuque, where military rites will be conducted by the Dubuque Marine Corps League. Friends may call after 1 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

He was born Feb. 26, 1923, in Unionville, Mo., son of George B. and Joyce Ann (Rouse) Harmon. He married Goldie E. Walters on Dec. 6, 1947, in Novinger, Mo.

George served in the Army Infantry and Artillery in the Philippines during World War II.

He retired from John Deere Dubuque Works after 35 years.

Surviving are his wife, Goldie; a son, Ellis Eugene (Sharon) Harmon, of Dubuque; grandchildren, Christopher Ellis (Sue) Harmon, of Dubuque, and Laura Lee (Mack) Alongi, of Carol Stream, Ill.; great-grandchildren, Valeria Alongi, Peter "P.J." Ellis Alongi, Ryleigh "Jean" Harmon and Owen and Alex Thompson; two sisters, Dorothy Rice, of Moline, Ill., and Alfreda James, of Kirksville, Mo.; a brother, Bobbie Eugene (Rose) Harmon, of St. Paul, Kan.; and sisters-in-law, Lucille Phillips, Berneice Baggs and Dorothy Harmon.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and six brothers and sisters.

The family requests no flowers. A George Harmon Memorial Fund has been established.
