Mary A. Jones

Our sweet mom Mary A. Jones, 88, of 2150 Pasadena Dr., formerly of 3015 Shiras Ave., passed away Tuesday, Oct 15, 2013, at Heritage Manor. Several of her family members were by her side as she slipped away, totally at peace that Jesus Christ would now have her in his care.

Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 18, at Egelhof, Siegert & Casper Westview Funeral Home and Crematory, 2659 Kennedy Road, where there will be a parish wake service at 7:30 p.m. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 19, at Resurrection Catholic Church, with the Rev. Gary Mayer officiating. Burial will be in Dubuque Memorial Gardens, south of Dubuque.

Mom was born in Northampton, Pa., on Aug. 22, 1925, daughter of Joseph and Anna Yurasits. She married Jack C. Jones, of Dubuque, on April 19, 1945; he preceded her in death on Jan 21, 2008.

She was a foster grandparent at Audubon School for 25 years and was awarded the Governors Volunteer Award in 2012.

Although in the past few months her body began to fade, her wit, her wisdom, her concern for those around her and her love for her family did not waver. In her 88 years, Mom showed us how to love and how to make the best of anything. She always added an extra loving touch from the food she prepared to the presents she would give, to the beautiful items she would crochet ... anything that she did with a needle ... every stitch was made with great love. Her pies were also made with love and were rated No. 1 in our family! Her concern in the past few months was that she needed to get better so she could make pies for the family Thanksgiving. When she realized that would be a task she couldn't do, she took comfort in knowing she had passed her pie-making skill on to her 11-year-old granddaughter, Emily. Thanksgiving would be taken care of!

She is survived by three sons: John Jones, of Idaho, and his children (and their mother, Gail Miller, of Cranberry, Pa.), Amy Pierce, of Rochester, Pa., and Greg (Mirna) Miller, of Murrieta, Calif.; Jim (Theresa) Jones, of Monte Vista, Colo., and his children, Hannah (Dan) Wizner, of Berlin, Wis., and Zach (Dayna), of Wahiaw, Hawaii; and Jeff (Karen) Jones, of Dubuque, and their sons, Matt (Chelsea) of Jacksonville, N.C., and Nick Jones, of Dubuque; two daughters: Carol (Burny) Foht, of Dubuque, and their daughters, Janel (Warren) Graham, of Port Washington, Wis., and Holly (Ryan) Conger, of Providence, Utah; and Chris (Dave) Lindgreen, of Dubuque, and their daughters, Anita and Emily; great-grandchildren, Lydia and Violet Conger, Ella, Sophia and Chloe Graham, Antoinette and Anthony Miller, Braxton and Paisley Jones and Hannah Wizner. And out of "everybody" ... WE were all her "favorite!"

She was preceded in death by an infant son; her parents; two stepsisters, Elizabeth Nagy and Anna Balke, of Tobyhanna, Pa.; and her niece, Joannie Kaplan.

Online condolences may be submitted at www.egelhofsiegertcasper.com.

The family is most grateful to the staff at Heritage Manor for their kindness and care for their mom and for Dr. Caceres and Dr. Steffens for compassionate, wise counsel and medical care and Hospice of Dubuque for the work they do.
