Sylvan M. Cornwall, 69, of 1722 Galway Drive, Marion, Iowa, formerly of Dubuque, died at 5:09 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 11, 2004, at St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Private graveside services and burial will be in Dubuque Memorial Gardens, south of Dubuque. There will be no public visitation. The Miller Funeral Home, East Dubuque, Ill., is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Cornwall was self-employed in the hydraulics business.

He was born on July 28, 1934, near Strawberry Point, Iowa, son of Albert D. and Arvilla D. (Hines) Cornwall.

He was a veteran of the Army, having served during the Korean Conflict.

Surviving are seven children, Deb (Dan) Welp and Jean (Kevin) Lutgen, both of East Dubuque, Laurie (Mike) Bechen and Richard (Tina) Cornwall, both of Dubuque, Teri Merritt, of Marion, Sheri (Martin) Dunn, of Salem, Ore., and Dennis (Wendy) Cornwall, of Sutherlin, Ore.; and 20 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
