Edith B. "Edie"Dieters, age 84, of Dubuque, Iowa, passed from this world peacefully into God's arms at 12:33 p.m. on Sunday, October 9, 2016, at UnityPoint Health-Finley Hospital, surrounded by her loving family.

To honor Edie's life, funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 13, 2016, at Holy Spirit Parish, Sacred Heart Church, 2215 Windsor Avenue, with Rev. Aaron R. Junge officiating. To celebrate Edie's life, family and friends may visit from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 12, 2016, at Behr Funeral Home, 1491 Main Street, where there will be a parish scripture wake service held at 6:30 p.m. Burial will be in Dubuque Memorial Gardens.

Edie was born on September 9, 1932, in Dubuque, Iowa, daughter of Arnold and Helen (Cook) Block. Edie was united in marriage to Kenneth Dieters Sr. on June 10, 1950, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Dubuque. They were blessed with 54 years together, and 8 loving children, before he was called home ahead of her on January 19, 2005.

Edie was a consistently devoted wife, mother and grandmother who took great pride in caring for her family. She was a faithful member of Sacred Heart Church, where she generously shared her vocal talents within the choir for many years. Edie was gifted with a sparkling personality and always treasured any opportunity to share a good laugh with family and friends.

Some of Edie's favorite moments in this life could be discovered enjoying a pleasant picnic at the park, a festive gathering with family, or even a simple quiet evening at home curled up comfortably with a classic movie. Edie also enjoyed trying her luck at the slots and was always anxious to tell the tale of her winnings; no matter how grand the amount.

But it must be said that Edie's greatest joy on this earth was the precious time spent with her family, especially her beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Edie always placed our lives before hers and her priority of family first was clearly evident for all to witness. We are sad today, as our "Beautiful Mother" has been taken home suddenly, but we are grateful for the years she blessed our lives and we know that she will forever remain in the hearts of all who knew and loved her!

Those left to cherish Edie's memory include her 8 children, Sharon (Don) Johnson, Cedar Rapids, IA, Gary (Diann) Dieters, Pat (Bob) Arensdorf, Barb (Paul) Kass, Judy (Steve) Davis, Dennis (Pat) Dieters, Lynn (Billy) Murphy and Kenny Dieters Jr., all of Dubuque, IA; 20 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren, and a brother, Dick Block, Dubuque, IA.

Edith was preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband, Kenneth; 2 grandchildren, Anthony Dieters and Jennifer Davis; and her siblings.

An Edith B. Dieters memorial fund has been established, which will be distributed among her favorite charities.

Edith's family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff of Finley Hospital for their kind, compassionate and professional care of Edith this past week.

Online condolences may be left for the family at www.behrfuneralhome.com
