Robert P. "Bob" Michel, 72, of Dubuque, died Friday, Jan. 11, 2013, at home surrounded by his loving family.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 15, at St. Luke's United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Dubuque Memorial Gardens, south of Dubuque. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Monday, Jan. 14, at Egelhof, Siegert & Casper Westview Funeral Home and Crematory, 2659 Kennedy Road. Friends also may call from 9:15 to 10:15 a.m. Tuesday at the church.

Bob was born on Feb. 27, 1940, in Prairie du Chien, Wis., son of Joseph and Veronica (Dohse) Michel. He graduated from Dubuque Senior High School in 1959.

On Sept. 12, 1959, he married Kathryn Garner, the love of his life since eighth grade, at St. Luke's United Methodist Church. In 2009, they celebrated 50 years of marriage with family and friends.

Bob worked at the Adams Co. as a machinist for
42 years, retiring in 2002.

He was a member the machinists union and attended St. Luke's United Methodist Church.

Bob enjoyed dancing, fishing, camping and playing guitar with the Over the Hill Gang. He was also a member of the All-Star Country Dancers and Key City Sams Camping Club. Bob and Kathy have always been at the center of their children's and grandchildren's lives. Bob was happy and easy to talk to. His smile, which lit up the room, was always present. His friendships were lifelong and too numerous to count.

Surviving are his wife, Kathy Michel, of Dubuque; a son, Tim (Deb) Michel, of Dubuque; two daughters, Tammy (Joe) Bechen, of Urbandale, Iowa, and Paula (Kevin) Pike, of Dubuque; four grandchildren, Sarah (Jimi) Wirth, Katie Michel, Bobbi Pike and Beth (Doug) Caldwell; a brother, Alphonse "Mickey" (Bev) Michel, of Lancaster, Wis.; a sister-in-law, June Michel, of Sherrill, Iowa; and a brother-in-law, Daryl (Dori) Garner, of Point Charlotte, Fla.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Gale Mickel.
