Telegraph Herald (Dubuque, IA) - Tuesday, January 24, 2017

Beverly J. Long, age 85, of Dubuque, Iowa, was called home suddenly at 2:24 p.m. on Saturday, January 21, 2017, at Mercy Medical Center-Dubuque, surrounded by her loving family.

To honor Beverly's life, funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, January 26, 2017, at Behr Funeral Home, 1491 Main Street, with Robert "J.J." Kimble officiating. To celebrate Beverly's life, family and friends may visit from 3 until 7 p.m. on Wednesday, January 25, 2017, at Behr Funeral Home, where there will be a scripture service held at 6:30 p.m. Burial will be in Linwood Cemetery.

Beverly was born on June 17, 1931, in Chicago, IL, daughter of Harvey and Nellie (Stevens) Haskell.

Beverly was a proud graduate of Dubuque Senior High School, Class of 1948, and would earnestly go on to invest several years working at the Savanna Army Depot, and the General Dry Battery Factory, before she began her career at the Dubuque Packing Company. Beverly would devote 40 years of her time to the Pack and generously possessed the very unique work ethic which routinely delivered her to work an hour early. When Beverly wasn't at work, you could usually find her stretching out and warming up on the ball diamond, or throwing a few strikes at the bowling alley in her younger years. She was definitely fun-loving and played on many leagues over the years, but some of her favorite times were the bowling leagues where she and her daughters would give the competition a good run for the money. Beverly was also a true nature lover and her appreciation (or some may say her greatest gentle weakness) for the birds, squirrels, and even the occasional stray cat or possum, was always a quality she would embrace without fail. But let it be stated that Beverly's real love throughout her earthly journey was for her family. Her children and grandchildren never had to wonder where they rested in Beverly's heart. Every day and every opportunity to express her love and adoration for them was a moment that Beverly would truly treasure until her last day among us. Unfortunately, we find ourselves arriving upon a new reality today which our hearts and minds can barely grapple with. Our dearly precious mother, grandmother, aunt and friend has been called home suddenly, and without notice, but we know that in time our pain will begin to heal, and we'll gradually find comfort in knowing that Beverly is sitting on the shore watching her bobber religiously rise and fall while relaxing next to her beloved son, Nicholas, once again.

Those left to cherish Beverly's memory include her 6 adoring children, Raechel (Jim) Cole, Dubuque, IA, Rebecca (Fred) Torres, Dubuque, IA, Babette "Babs" Long, Dubuque, IA, Juanita (Terry) McCarthy, Dubuque, IA, Denise (Fred Farmer) Roussel, Marion, OH, and Nellie (Robert "J.J.") Kimble, Dubuque, IA; her 23 grandchildren; her 28 great-grandchildren; her 2 brothers, Richard (Rosie) Haskell, Dubuque, IA, and Robert Haskell, Rockford, IL; and many wonderful nieces and nephews.

Beverly was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Nicholas Long; a great-grandson, Kael Ball; and a sister, Shirley (Ben) Huseman.

A Beverly J. Long memorial fund has been established, which will be distributed among her favorite charities.

Online condolences may be left for the family at www.behrfuneralhome.com.
