Dead at Home Here

Bart J. Cain, 69, engineer at the county building for 30 years and a member of the police department in the late 80's, died at his home, 1650 South Grandview avenue, Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock. Mr. Cain had been ill for the past three years.

The funeral will be held Saturday morning from the family home to St. Columbkille's church, where a mass of requiem will be read at 9 o'clock. Burial will be in Mount Olivet cemetery.

Mr. Cain was born in Ireland Aug. 15, 1864, and when an infant was brought to Dubuque by his parents, the late Michael and Julia Leyden Cain. He was married in 1886 to Annie Coyle. Mr Cain was appointed a member of the police department in 1888 by the laste George Burch, then mayor of Dubuque, and served as a member of the force for two years. He was appointed engineer of the county building more than 30 years ago. he continued in this position for 30 years, retiring some time ago because of the condition of his health.

Mr. Cain enjoyed wide popularity in Dubuque and the county. He was a member of the National Association of Stationary Engineers. Mr. Cain was a life long member of the Catholic faith and an attendant at St. Columbkille's parish.

He is survived by his widow, two sons, Frank M. and Bard D., two brothers, Thomas and Matthew, and three sisters, Mrs. Thomas Lee, Mrs. Margaret Purcell and Miss Nellie Cain, all of Dubuque.
