Dorothy Marie (Aurit) Chalmers, 87, of Joplin, Mo., formerly of Dubuque, passed away on Christmas eve, Dec. 24, 2000, in Joplin, where she had been residing at Spring River Christian Village for the last two years.

Memorial services are planned for the spring.

She was born on Jan. 17, 1913, in New Diggings, Wis. In 1938, she married John K. Chalmers, an attorney and former mayor of Dubuque. They had four children, Dr. Bruce L., of Riverside, Calif., Dr. Douglas K., who is deceased, Dr. Diane C. Johnson, of Charleston, S.C., and Mrs. Candace C. Bickford, of Joplin, Mo. Mr. Chalmers passed away in 1993.

Mrs. Chalmers was an almost lifelong resident of Dubuque. She graduated from Clarke College in 1934, with a degree in drama. She was a long-time member of the Dubuque Golf & Country Club, a parishioner at Nativity Catholic Church, and an avid bowler and bridge player.

She is also survived by 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
