FARLEY, Iowa - Marion A. Greenwood, 97, of Farley, Iowa, passed away Monday, July 31, 2017, at 11:55 p.m. at Stonehill Care Center in Dubuque, Iowa.

Friends and relatives of Marion may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Friday, August 4, 2017, at Reiff Funeral Home in Farley, Iowa, where a Farley American Legion Auxiliary service will be held at 7 p.m. and a scripture wake service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Friends may also call after 9 a.m. on Saturday at Reiff Funeral Home.

Services for Marion will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, August 5, 2017, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Farley, Iowa, with Rev. Richard Kuhn presiding. Burial will be held in St. Joseph's Cemetery in Farley, Iowa.

She was born to Valentine George and Loretta Helen Splinter Leibold on March 23, 1920, in Jamestown Township, Wisconsin. She graduated from St. Mary's School in East Dubuque, IL, in 1934 and the former St. Joseph's Academy, Dubuque, in 1938. On November 30, 1942, she married J. Glen Greenwood at St. Mary's Catholic Church, East Dubuque, Illinois. They were employed by the J.C. Penney Company and worked in Minnesota, Wisconsin and Iowa. In 1957, they relocated to Farley, Iowa, where they owned and operated Farley Lanes and M & G Drive-In for many years.

She was employed by the Western Dubuque Community School District for decades. Later, she enjoyed working a retirement position at Leroy's Pizza in Dyersville, IA.

Marion was a devoted Roman Catholic and longtime member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Farley, where she ministered in many roles over the years as a volunteer, most recently as a member of the Resurrection Choir, the Sunday choir, the Prelude Singers, the Liturgy Committee and the Altar and Rosary Society. Her faith was a foundation of her golden years, and she prayed hours each day.

Marion contributed to her civic community as a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and the Farley Garden Club. She served as a local Girl Scout troop leader. She participated in social events of the Red Hats of Farley. In Marion's early years, she enjoyed bowling and was a member of several leagues.

She never met a challenge she couldn't overcome. She found great joy in life, her family and friends. Marion took special interest in travel, music, arts and fashion.

Surviving are four children, Billie (Paul Allen) Greenwood, of Davenport, Val (Ron) Lucas, of Holy Cross, Erin (Gary) Sundberg, of Cedar Rapids, and Gina (Chris Lakner) Greenwood, of Madison, Wisconsin; five grandchildren, Ben (fiancé Simmy Thompson) Lucas, Josh (Megan) Lucas, Anna (Carlos Marin) Lucas, Leah Lucas and Grant Sundberg; two great-grandchildren, Madeline and Savannah Lucas; and many beloved nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Glen; her first-born infant daughter, Cheryl Ann, and her grandson David Lucas. Marion was the last-surviving member of her family of origin, including her parents; a brother, Gene Leibold; and three sisters, June Hendricks, Colleen Bannon and Geri Wieser.

In lieu of flowers, a Marion Greenwood Memorial Fund has been established.
