Prominent and Esteemed Pioneer
Passes Away as Result of
Paralytic Stroke

Ex-Alderman, John M. Lillig, passes away at the family residence 777 Garfield Avenue, on Wednesday evening at 8:15 o’clock, as the result of a paralytic stroke sustained while at work a few weeks ago.

Mr. Lillig was born in Bavaria, Germany, Oct. 18th, 1838, but came to America in 1847, locating in Dubuque where he has since resided, for the past forty years Mr. Lillig has been at the head of the shipping department of the Standard Lumber Company.

He was a member of the Harmony Lodge, I. O. O. F., Ironwood Camp, M. W. A., and Germania Lodge A. O. U. W.

Mr. Lillig was a thoroughly efficient man, a respected and esteemed citizen representing the Fifth Ward in the city council three or four different times and proving a good alderman.

His passing away will occasion regret for his life was benefit to the world and especially to the many who called him friend.
