Joseph F. Meurisse
Joseph F. Meurisse, well known local pioneer, who had been ill for a week, was claimed by death at the home, 1838 Sycamore street, this morning at 12:15 o'clock.
The funeral will be held Monday morning from the home to Sacred Heart church at 9 o'clock. Burial will be made in the adjoining cemetery.
f Sacred Heart church, the Marquette court, Catholic Order of Foresters and in his last hour he was comforted by the rites of that religion.
He was married at Brownsville, Minn., to Margaret Farrell, who passed away last June 20. Besides two daughters, Misses Mayme and Catherine, he is survived by two sons, Joseph J. and Leo P. Meurisse, all of this city, two grandchildren, a sister, Mrs. John Spahn, Dubuque, and a brother, John, California.
He was born in Belgium April 4, 1854 and came to this city with his parents September 10, fifty-seven years ago and with exception of two years spent on a farm near Ida Grove, Ia., he had always resided in this city.
He was a stationary engineer for the Chicago, Dubuque and Minnesota railroad for many years and later a fireman and engineer on the Milwaukee railroad. Until 1913 when he became ill he was employed as a stationary engineer at the Dubuque Altar company.
